Bhimsain’s foray into live-action was significant for Indian cinema. He began with neither pomp nor splendour; but rather with a simple story of an urban couple looking for a house in Mumbai, calling it ‘Gharaonda’. Its’ unconventional climax discouraged film distributors in 1977. Bhimsain, however, released the film with his own money and it went on to become a cult-classic.
Till date, it is remembered as a film that forever altered the conventional ‘boy always gets the girl’ ethos in Bollywood.

Bhimsain also directed over 200 TV commercials for leading brands in his prolific career.
